The International Academy offers a range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate English language courses such as Pre sessional English, International Foundation Year, International Business Communication, Teacher Training, TESOL, Pre Masters and Graduate and Professional English Language skills. We also offer a residential Summer School at the historic Priorslee Hall, Telford and are ideally placed in the heart of England.
The International Academy at the University Wolverhampton is based in the historic Priorslee Hall at Telford Innovation Campus and offers a real home from home for all of our international students. With accommodation and catering available on campus we offer a range of courses and services including:

Students can join our wide range of courses on offer year round or we have the facilities and highly trained staff to create bespoke courses for cohorts.
The Professional Communications special interest classes in the summer includes business English skills
Bespoke Business English courses available for cohort groups
Summer School runs over July and August each year with students usually staying between 2-4 weeks. Courses each week include:
• 12 hours English per week and 1 hour cultural class
• 5 hours study in a specialist area: Choice of Media and Broadcasting, Art and Design and Professional Communications
• Social Programme including 1 day trip, 1 day trip and evening social programme
• Accommodation on campus in University halls of residence. Each student has their own room with private bathroom and shared kitchen/living area.
Courses are suitable for students between English levels A2 to C1
Pre sessional English - Courses run all year round, at 5 entry levels (Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate and University Preparation) with start dates in January, February, May, June, July, September, October and December. Students will acquire the language and study skills required for study at a UK University.
Graduate and Professional English Language skills course enables students to meet the entry requirements for a research or professional career (IELTS 7.0).
Pre Masters courses bridge the gap between previous qualifications and postgraduate study. The Pre-Masters forms the foundation for Masters-level study at the University of Wolverhampton. It helps you develop an understanding of the expectations and academic skills needed to successfully study at postgraduate level in the UK.
Our joint degree in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) equips you with the practical and theoretical knowledge and skills you need to work in the contemporary ESOL/EFL classroom.
International Foundation Year - Designed for international students who wish to study for a degree but do not have the right qualifications to move straight on to a degree course. The IFY course develops skills you need for studying at degree level and the opportunity to experience university life. We have four International Foundation Years:
- Education, Health and Wellbeing
- Science and Engineering
- Social Sciences
Academic Study Abroad – Study Semester Abroad programme allows university students or recent graduates the opportunity to study English and their chosen subject of study. Top Up degrees are also a possibility with partner institutions.
The Academic Cambridge IELTS Preparation Course at the International Academy enables you to apply for undergraduate and postgraduate study and is required by professional registration bodies (such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council). We also provide bespoke all-inclusive packages by arrangement and intensive courses should you wish to retake your Cambridge IELTS test.
The International Academy also runs a diagnostic / entrance exam (Wolverhampton English Proficiency Exam) which assesses English language for courses at the University of Wolverhampton.
Teacher Development course for EFL teachers which enables teachers of English from around the world to experience the language first hand and reflect upon their own teaching methodology.
Initial Teacher Training - We also deliver initial teacher training (1 week) introductory courses.
